Windows 8: Today News Windows 8 is very alike to Windows Mobile 7 and it was designed as a compliment. Microsoft has revealed the next version of its operating system at the All Things D prototype of a tablet and touches screen laptops with a keyboard and mouse. Under the hood, Windows 8 admits a new set of tools and services, developers can take advantage. But the new operating system (whatever it ends up being called) can run all standard applications for Windows 7, "said Steven Sino sky, president of Windows and Windows Live division within the company. Early headline the new Windows is a lot prettier than its familiar predecessor. The touch interface is based on customizable live tiles similar to what Microsoft has on its smart phones. The new begin screen replaces the start button, tiles and taskbar every Windows user has lived with. That more familiar-looking Windows apparently is not gone for good however taps a desktop icon for an Office app such as Excel, for example, and Windows looks, well, like Windows. Sino sky won't spill the beans on when the new Windows is coming but it won't be as early as this fall. "Right now we're focusing on getting a release done," he said. Microsoft plans to reveal more about its developer conference in the fall. Of course, Microsoft has given a foretaste of the new Windows. There are carrying on issues to do with boot times, distribution and pricing and the type of irritating "Craplet" software that can be seized by the manufacturers of computers, an issue raised by the speaker Walt Mossberg conference. Mossberg and asked about security on Windows 8, Sino sky said, "I think it will forever be a good idea to run security software."
